Iron-Man Modified Series

Michael Chilton and K.C. Burdette Grab Iron-Man 40 Checkered Flags with Iron-Man Racing Series at Atomic Speedway

WAVERLY, OHIO (September 17, 2022)– The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series and the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Northern Series would be in action at Atomic Speedway in Waverly, OH on Saturday evening for the Iron-Man 40. In Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series action, Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY would inherit the lead on lap thirty-four and lead the remainder of the way to claim the $7,500 payday. K.C. Burdette of Parkersburg, WV would grab the win in the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Northern Series main event and claim the $1,000 victory.

The victory for 36 year-old Chilton would be his second of the season with the tour and his tenth career Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series victory and would come behind the wheel of a Rocket Chassis powered by a Cornett Race Engine and carries sponsorship from MKC Transport, Parkview Home Center, Caton’s Industrial Painting, EquipLink Auction Group, C and C Redi Mix, Purvis Home Builders, Edgewood Homes, Base Race Fuels, Irvin Enterprises, Bluegrass Radiator, and Brucebilt Performance.

The win for the 32 year-old Burdette was his second win of the season with the series and his second career Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Series and his win come aboard a Stealth Race Car with a Craiger Race Engine and is sponsored by Fordyce Heavy Equipment, Central Star Drilling, Tank Lines of Paris, Poske’s Performance Parts, Holdren Construction, Octane Race Products, Adrenaline Race Fuel, GO Lithium Batteries, and Dirt Car Lift.

The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series Iron Man 40 main event would see the caution flag two times prior to officially getting a lap completed, once for a spin by Audie Swartz in turn four and the second one for Jared Hawkins, who slowed on the backchute with rear suspension damage. Once action got underway, Steve Casebolt would jump to the race lead, followed by Josh Rice, Michael Chilton, R.J. Conley, and Tristan Chamberlain. The caution would wave again on lap three when Rice would slow in turn two with a flat right-rear tire. Casebolt would again command the field on the restart, with Chilton now second, followed by R.J. Conley, Chamberlain, and Clint Keenan. The front duo of Casebolt and Chilton would quickly pull away from the field, until the caution appeared again on lap eight for Lucas Crooks, who had slowed in turn one. The top five would remain the same on the restart and run in that order until Chamberlain slowed on lap eleven in turn three with a flat right rear tire. Casebolt and Chilton would again be first and second on the restart, while eleventh-place starter David Webb would jump to third, followed by R.J. Conley and Keenan. Conley would retake third, while Rice had charged from the rear of the field and would go from sixth to fourth prior to slowing on the track again with a flat left-rear tire on lap fourteen. Casebolt, Chilton, and R.J. Conley would hold the podium positions on the restart, while Rod Conley would claim fourth and shuffle Webb back to fifth. Casebolt and Chilton would again pull away from the remainder of the field, while Tyler Carpenter would pressure Webb for fifth before taking the position finally on lap twenty. The front pair would start working slower traffic on lap twenty-three, with Chilton pressuring Casebolt for the lead, but unable to make a pass. The final caution would appear on lap thirty-four and become a red flag after heavy contact with the backstretch retaining wall by Rice and Jared Hawkins. The red flag would have to be displayed to get the racing surface cleared of debris and while under the red flag, race leader Casebolt would have his right-rear tire slowly start to deflate and after the yellow came back out, Casebolt would ride for one lap and eventually pull his mount pitside. This would give the lead of the event to Chilton, who would lead the remainder of the way to score the win, with the brother duo of Rod Conley and R.J. Conley finishing second and third. Henry Hornsby III would get by Carpenter on lap thirty-six and hold on to finish fourth, with Carpenter completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Webb, seventeenth-place starter Andy Bond, Clint Keenan, Brenden Smith, and Travis Carr.

K.C. Burdette would outduel Travis Dickson and Jason Montgomery for the lead at the start of the Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Northern Series feature event, with Montgomery, Dickson, Kenny Johnson, and Spencer Flowers giving chase. The front five would in this order until the first caution of the event appeared in turn three for a three-car tangle involving Jesse Wisecarver, Steve Clemmons, and Tyler Misner. The front five would remain the same after the restart until 12th place starting Kyle Bond would take fifth from Flowers on lap five. Dickson and Montgomery would battle for the second spot, with Dickson taking runner-up honors on lap seven. The front five would hold their positions until the final caution waved on lap fourteen for debris on the backchute. Burdette would maintain the lead on the restart, with Dickson and Montgomery second and third. Bond would ride in fourth spot, with Brayden Berry taking the fifth position from Flowers on lap fifteen. Bond would grab the third position from Montgomery on lap sixteen, but no one would catch Burdette as he would take the checkered flag first, with Dickson, Bond, Montgomery, and Berry completing the top five finishers. The remainder of the top ten would be Jesse Wisecarver, Chad Roush, Larry Bond, Spencer Flowers, and Kenny Johnson.

Stricker would score two victories on the tour (both coming at Atomic Speedway) on his way claiming the inaugural series title.
